Wizards Of The Coast Unveils "Unsanctioned" – "Magic: The Gathering"

Well, I'm at an unending loss for words. Probably with no credit to Bleeding Cool for our deck tech on The Grand Calcutron or the upcoming Halloween deck tech for Grusilda, Monster Masher, Wizards of the Coast has unveiled their newest silver-bordered set for Magic: The Gathering. Called "Unsanctioned", this set contains five 30-card mini-decks with silver-bordered, completely unsanctioned (heh) cards, save for basic lands. These 30-card mini-decks do contain a few reprints within, but among the decks, there are sixteen cards that are new to the silver-bordered world.

Along with these decks come two spindown dice which are sure to become collector's items given enough time, a reusable deck box, five extra basic lands from the release, and five premium foil basic lands as well. For those who don't know, the full-art basic lands from silver-bordered sets quickly tend to become the most sought-after cards in these releases due to their generally breathtakingly-beautiful art. This is usually the key selling point for these sets, and will probably be the main reason players pick the Unsanctioned box set up.

This is basically all we know and can extrapolate from the official Unsanctioned product announcement on the Daily MTG Magic news website on Wizards of the Coast's main hub. Unsanctioned is slated to come out on February 29th, 2020. No MSRP has been given, as has been the trend with Magic: The Gathering products lately, following Wizards' announcement that they'd no longer be listing a manufacturer's suggested retail price.

Wizards did also showcase a "Mystery Booster", with nothing more than the packaging thereof, yesterday. We know absolutely nothing else about this release except that we will find out more at MagicFest Richmond from November 8th-10th.

Is this Wizards' attempt at making our game's randomization even more random? Booster packs are already extremely random as it is. Players not knowing what they're paying for seems like a lot, but I know I'm still going to buy Mystery Boosters if I hear anything positive about the contents and ideally if they cost about the same as a normal booster pack.
