Machina Corpse to Reinanimate the Spooky Comic Publisher

Stephen Emond writes,

Hello, this is Stephen Emond, one half of MACHINA CORPSE, the other half being the always-spooky Chandra Free, and WHAT IS Machina Corpse, why does it invoke dead bodies, and what is our Kickstarter for? All great questions. We're a comic publisher, a HORROR-THEMED comic publisher, and we have yet to publish our first comic but that is what the Kickstarter is for.

Auto Draft

Machina Corpse looks to revive, like so many undead bodies, the spooky comics section of the comic store of days gone by. Horror is such an imagination-rich multilayered genre, whether it's your ghost stories, your hauntings, demons, scary comics; or your slice of life dread and drama, or even humorous horror, in recent years it's Creepypasta and Nosleep, we want it all. We want rich stories, art just bursting with character and personality. We want you to open the pages of our comics and soak in the illustrated nightmares like a sponge and never feel safe again.

Auto Draft

Our Kickstarter rewards are focused on Machina Corpse's First Offerings, a 36-page dual comic by Free and Emond with bonus materials, behind the scenes stuff, pinups, the works. Free's half of the comic and ultimately her first major project with the Corpse is "Lonely, BK." That sounds sad, you say, well let me tell you, this inclusive comic has messy, bloody, neck-craving vampires, depressed ghosts haunting the L train, non-binary life-loving drag queen witches, asshole werewolves and failed love lives. And that's just in this First Offerings, the graphic novel to follow will expand on the mythology and protagonist Seline's story. Lonely, BK is a slice of life horror comic, it's funny, it's weird, it's sexy, it's dark.

Auto Draft

Emond is doing "1983" which is a standalone prequel to a larger graphic novel as well. This book has it all. A protagonist with bleeding eyes, a haunted rubik's cube, a demon known as the Squatter that lives in damaged souls, pyromaniac ghosts, emails that write themselves, a bear suit and it's intended for teens that love really dark things. Teens need spooky books, comics need spooky books.

This is what we want to do. Horror is an amazing genre, the audience for horror wants to be scared, they let creative works into their deepest selves and with good art, good characters and a creepy story, there's no other genre like it. We need to raise about 3.5k more to fund by October 30. We call on YOU, dear Bleeding Cool reader, to face your fears and let the nightmares in. If we can get to $3,000, that's just 379 bucks from where we are now, we'll add another 12 pages of shorts and behind the scenes extras to the PDF of the book, bumping the pages from 36 to 48. We've got the PDFs, print comics, posters, pins, pages for sale. Chan and I are doing #corpestober all month online and I'll have all 31 of my horror-themed prompts of original art up for grabs. Get paintings used in the book, be a background character in Lonely BK, get commissions from Chandra and even horror commissions we'll draw together as a collaboration.

Help make Machina Corpse a success and visit our kickstarter now! This is JUST THE BEGINNING. Once the dead have risen the Comicocalypse truly begins.
