How Far Would You Go to Survive in a Police State?

Dave Baker, creator of Night Hunters (now on Kickstarter), writes:

My name is Dave Baker. You might know me from such titles as F*ck Off Squad, Murders, or Star Trek: Waypoint. My co-creator on this project is Alexis Ziritt. Artist of such books as Space Riders, Tarantula, and Space Riders 2. We've joined forces to make a cyberpunk comic about life on the streets of a dystopian Venezuela, 100 years in the future.

The high concept of our book is that in the near future Venezuela will become a police state. Literally. If you want to run for public office, have a baby in a hospital, or be able to rent an apartment, you have to become a police officer.

Our book follows two adopted brothers as one becomes a cyborg police officer and the other a drug dealer. The central question at the heart of the book is how far would you go to keep those you love safe? What lines would you cross to make sure there's a roof over your family's heads?

It's about attempting to survive in a corrupt system that's rigged against you. And to make things worse, everyone knows the system is rigged and they've just accepted it.

Our book is going to be published by Floating World Comics, a retailer and publisher out of Portland, Oregon. They believe that putting the creators at the center of a project and giving them control is key to making unique and idiosyncratic works. That's why we've partnered with them to publish and distribute our book once it's funded.

However, we have a long road ahead of us. We're running a Kickstarter right now to pay for the production of the book. Alexis has a family and needs to be able to eat, obviously. We've set on telling an uncompromising story and we want to build this book the way it deserves to be built. That's why we're coming to you to help us make the project successful.

This project won't live unless we have a solid number of backers who contribute and believe in uncompromising stories and art. Which is examtly why were here. Kickstarter allows us to create the book we want to make, completely undiluted. It gives us the platform we need to be able to reach people who would love our story but who might not have seen it otherwise.

So, in closing, if you're a fan of cyberpunk comics and manga, bootleg bullshit, and anti-authoritarian science fiction, this is the comic for you.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
