“Zombieland: Double Tap” Red Band Trailer Reveals Cameo

Sony released the red band trailer for its zom-com Zombieland: Double Tap.  Save for a cameo reveal, there isn’t much added. The trailer starts with Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) dropping a grenade into a vehicle and blowing it up. Shocked, Wichita (Emma Stone) screams, “What the f***?!” at what just happened.

The trailer then reveals to be the “More than the f-bomb trailer.” They revisit the sequence around the White House where the four unload on the zombie horde with their weapon of choice: Wichita with her full automatic assault rifle, Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) with her handgun, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) with his shotgun, and Tallahassee with a crowbar.

After the scuffle, the four approach the White House and ride razor scooters. The next sequence Tallahassee dresses up as Santa Claus skipping out on him asking Little Rock what she wants for Christmas. Instead, it goes to Columbus attempting to sit on his lap to play along before Tallahassee gets up telling him he doesn’t give a f***.

The next revisited scene is the introduction of Madison (Zoey Deutch) before Columbus attempts to shoot freaking her out. Madison mistaken Columbus’ intent as her insensitivity to animals explaining, “It’s fake fur.” In a different scene, Tallahassee uses a pair of handguns to shoot up a zombie shifting to Tallahassee ripping on Columbus’ scrawny demeanor.

The Cameo

A new scene comes at the 0:35 second mark where Al Roker interviews Bill Murray in a fourth wall moment about why he took a “role.” This presumes his cameo in the first Zombieland, incredulously exclaiming it couldn’t been the script. Murray admitted it was because of drugs.

The trailer shifts to a quick sequence of shots with zombies surrounded by flames, Tallahassee dressed up as Elvis Presley, Wichita wanting to save her sister, zombie leaping toward Columbus as he ducks from atop an RV with Wichita unloads her assault rifle on it as it falls. There’s another scene with Madison where Tallahassee declares she would be the first to die [among the zombies], but he likes her enthusiasm and thanks her for her sacrifice.

In Case You Didn’t Remember Them Doing the First Movie

The film reminds the viewer “from the director of Venom” in case people forgot who Ruben Fleischer is and he directed the first Zombieland 10 years ago. The trailer cuts away to Nevada (Rosario Dawson) talking with Tallahassee, a monster truck makes a leap, a vehicle spinning in place. It cuts to “from the writers of Deadpool” in case people forgot about Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick,  who wrote the first movie.

The trailer revisits the White House, but an extension of a previous sequence. Tallahassee said he thought he would have made a fine president as he props his leg on the president’s desk. He finds a cigar and as he savors the flavor, Wichita informs him the cigars are probably leftover from the Bill Clinton administration. He awkwardly stares at the cigar before shrugging.

Like the previous trailer, the film reminds you the “prestige” of its core cast with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin as Academy Award nominees and Emma Stone as a winner in title cards followed by a sequence with each character. The trailer then replays the grenade scene before going to the title.

The final scene sees the group catching the monster truck mounting Tallahassee’s limo with zombies swarming around. Tallahassee says his signature line, “Time to nut up or shut up.” Albuquerque (Luke Wilson) scoffs at him suggesting it sounds like something that came out of 2009 as a final tongue-in-cheek nod to the previous film.
