Don’t Expect Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker to Meet Robert Pattinson’s Batman

Joker took home the top prize at one film festival and is set to make its debut at a second one yesterday. People are already talking about it making the rounds at the awards circuit next year and it setting a new bar for the entire genre. However, for all of the prestige, this is still a comic book movie and that means the normal questions will come out. The big one being that there is a new man playing the Joker and we just cast a new man to play Batman a few months ago. So, of course, we need to find out whether or not these two characters are ever going to cross paths. Variety got the chance to talk to speak to Joker director Todd Phillips about whether or not these two characters will meet up and he said “no, definitely not” which is pretty definitive. However, he doesn’t believe this will be the last movie to feature the Joker.

“Oddly, in the states, comic books are our Shakespeare it seems, and you can do many many versions of “Hamlet,” Phillips said. “There will be many more jokers, I’m sure, in the future.”

Joker Director Todd Phillips Confirms an R-Rating Plus a New Image

As of right now, this movie appears to be in its own universe which is interesting. The DC universe of movies has had a hard time finding its own place in the superhero genre. Joker being a one-off movie and seeming like it will do well would be a good indication that Warner Bros. should just do a bunch of one-off movies instead of trying to make something that can compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Summary: A failed stand-up comedian is driven insane and becomes a psychopathic murderer.

Joker, directed by Todd Phillips, will star Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham. It will be released on October 4th, 2019.
