"Cruella" and "The Woman in the Window" Get Delayed

It's not that surprising that more release dates are getting shuffled around in the wake of the Disney-Fox merger. Disney was already on the verge of cannibalizing its own movies before they purchased a studio with a bunch of movies are in various forms of production. So no one was really surprised when Disney announced two delays in for the next two years or so according to t The Hollywood Reporter.

One of the big ones is the fact that Cruella has been moved from its original December 23, 2020 release date to May 28, 2021 release. Disney has had mixed results with the Memorial Day weekend release. While Aladdin has gone on to make over a billion dollars this year Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed in that weekend. However, the other reason for the move could be because Steven Spielberg's West Side Story remake is set to open that Christmas as well. Now that the movie is a Fox property Disney doesn't want to be competing against itself during the potentially lucrative December season.

Cruella is in the middle of casting and at the moment they have Emma Stone cast as the titular character with Joey Fry and Paul Walter Hauser also starring. The movie will be a prequel to 101 Dalmations with Craig Gillespie directing.

Disney has also decided to delay the adaptation of A.J. Finn's bestselling book The Woman in the Window from October 4th of this year to May 15, 2020. That is usually a good time for movies like this to open but there were reports that reshoots were needed. Star Amy Adams was unavailable to complete the reshoots until this month hence the fact that Disney has to delay a movie that looks far more suited to fall to early summer.

Finally, two more Fox movies now have release dates: Empty Man will be released on August 7, 2020, and Everybody's Talking About Jamie snagged a May 28, 2021 release date.
