Now Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans' Die #6 Sells Out and Goes to Second Printing a Week Before Going On-Sale

The war of press releases between Image Comics and Boom Studios continues over the commodification of Kieron Gillen. Yesterday, we ran news of its print run, ahead-of-sale sellout and presumed, expected second printing for Once & Future #1 from Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora from Boom Studios.

Well, Kieron Gillen is in the pub with me now and just made me aware of a tweet from Image Comics.

And sure enough, there's an accompanying e-mail in my inbox. Well, I had better stop drinking and get this up on the site, hadn't I?

Because now Image Comics has actually fast-tracked a second printing of Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans' Die #6 a week ahead of its release. The upcoming issue is scheduled to hit stores on Wednesday, August 7th and—due to increasing demand—will ship sold-out at the distributor level.

Image Comics would like to remind us that 'The popularity of the hot new series, Die, has grown at breakneck speed with multiple sell-outs and reprints of every issue.' Which is code for, yes we know that Once & Future did well for its first issue, but subsequent issues of Die are doing even better. Because we're Image Comics and this is what we do, go screw yourselves, Boom.' That's how I read things, anyway.

Die is a pitch-black fantasy where a group of adults have to deal with the returning unearthly horror they barely survived as teenage role-players. The series is perhaps best described as "Goth Jumanji"—but that only captures a sliver of what you'll find in this series where fantasy gets all too real.

Die #6, second printing will be available on Wednesday, August 28th. The final order cutoff deadline for comic shop retailers is Monday, August 5th.
