"13 Reasons Why" Season 3 Official Trailer, August Premiere Date; Series Ending with Season 4

Netflix made a "good news/bad news"announcement for viewers of 13 Reasons Why. On the plus side, the critically-acclaimed teen drama's third season will consist of 13 episodes and premiere on the streaming service on August 23 – with an official trailer (see below) to mark the occasion. On top of that, the series has received a fourth season pick-up. On the not-so-plus side, season 4 will be the show's final season. Currently in production, the series' wrap-up will feature the cast's graduation from Liberty High – with the season expected to premiere some time in 2020.

13 REASONS WHY Season 3 picks up eight months after the events of the previous season, focusing on Clay (Dylan Minnette), Tony (Christian Navarro), Jessica (Alisha Boe), Alex (Miles Heizer), Justin (Justin Foley), and Zach (Ross Butler) as they attempt to find ways to shoulder the burden of the cover-up together while helping Tyler (Devin Druid) move toward recovery. But when the aftermath of a tumultuous Homecoming game culminates in the disappearance of a football player – with Clay finding himself under police scrutiny – it's up to a shrewd outsider to steer the group through an investigation that threatens to lay bare everyone's deepest secrets.

Netflix's 13 Reasons Why also stars Timothy Granaderos, Anne Winters, Steven Weber, Brenda Strong, Amy Hargreaves, and Grace Saif. Series creator Brian Yorkey serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Mandy Teefey, Kristel Laiblin, Selena Gomez, and Joy Gorman. Paramount Television and Anonymous Content produce.

The news comes two weeks after Netflix and Yorkey announced their decision to edit the realistic depiction of Hannah's (Katherine Langford) suicide – with the streaming giant saying in a statement:

"We've heard from many young people that '13 Reasons Why' encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help—often for the first time. As we prepare to launch season three later this summer, we've been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show. So on the advice of medical experts, including Dr. Christine Moutier, Chief Medical Officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we've decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life from season one."
