Kissing and Killing in the Uncanny X-Men Finale (Major Spoilers)

After a grueling 22 issues and even more shocking character deaths, the current volume of Uncanny X-Men came to a close on Wednesday with Uncanny X-Men #22. Did bloodthirsty writer Matthew Rosenberg kill off more characters in this issue? You bet he did. But that doesn't mean there wasn't at least one happy moment too.

Scroll down past the spoiler graphic to find out who was kissing who and who was killed off…

Will (SPOILER)'s Death Have Consequences? Teen Titans #30 Preview

Today's issue kicked off with Cyclops receiving a lecture from Dani Moonstar about all the X-Men he's gotten recklessly killed since his return, perhaps an inner monologue of Matty Rosenberg's own conscience talking to himself. Thankfully, Havok soon steps in to reaffirm his brother's leadership skills.

So of course, Havok is the first to die this issue, incorporating himself in a massive blast when Scott and Alex are attacked by a sentinel which somehow remembers them even though Emma Frost wiped the concept of mutants from the minds of the entire world.

But Scott barely has time to mourn his brother when more sentinels, flanked by a cerebro-wearing General Callahan, show up at the Hellfire Club to confront Emma. Since these sentinels are grown from pieces of Warlock, Warlox (Warlock merged with a Jamie Madrox dupe) is able to remove their mutant-hating programming… but at what cost? Not a death, thankfully, but a complete wiping of his own memories. How could you forget your selffriends, Warlock?!

Next up, and in this case someone who deserved it, Wolverine puts General Callahan out of our misery, the only way to stop the one person who remembers mutants and, coincidentally, wants to eradicate them from the face of the planet. Unfortunately, it was hard to reach Callahan surrounded by giant mutant death machines, which meant that Jamie Madrox had to create a bunch of cannon fodder dupes to help get him there. Unfortunately, he forgot to leave one behind…

You know what, Rosenberg?! We've about had it with this crap. Not only are you killing off all of our beloved mutants, but their friends don't even seem to care anymore! Just who the hell do you think you are and what makes you think you can just wantonly kill off… wait, what's that? What happened next?

Yes, of course, the X-Men finally come back from the Age of X-Man, just in time to save the day. Sentinel ass is kicked, of course, but the best part happens next, when Scott Summers and Jean Grey are reunited post-resurrection at last. And much to the chagrin of both Wolverine and Emma Frost… they kiss!

And to top it off, a callback to Uncanny X-Men #132? Is this one of those "nostalgic tropes" Hickman was trashtalking about earlier today?

Scott and Jean, together again? Okay, Rosenberg, we take back every mean thing we've said about you the past few months. And also all the mean things we've thought about you but not said publicly.

Of course, the question remains whether this newly-rekindled relationship will continue into the Hickboot… but we don't have long to find out.

Uncanny X-Men #22 is in stores now.
