Amazing Spider-Man #25 is Mary Jane's Time To Shine (Spoilers)

Amazing Spider-Man #25 is published tomorrow, by Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley and a few friends. But for Spider-Man, it's more about set up. What Mysterio is planning (well, he is in the movie), the first appearance of a new Sinister Six called Syndicate, the appearance of other Spider-characters  – and what Kindred is foretelling for the book.

Yeah, that's not good.

But the main action, as Electro returns, isn't for Spider-Man, who is distracted by other threats. But for Mary Jane Watson, going to see a play, starring an old acting colleague, and recalling her previous career as an actress. Before everything went kablooey. And of course, everything goes kablooey.

But the centre of this extra-length anniversary issue of Spider-Man is how she deals with it. The smarts she has picked up alongside Spider-Man, alongside Tony Stark, alongside – well, May Parker, and how she uses it to deal with a super-powered threat, Without powers, a combination of talking and trickery. She's basically Doctor Who.

So yes, this comic is all about Spider-Man. But for this issue, it puts the main spotlight on Mary Jane, and it works… and it foreshadows Mary Jane's future as well. And with one sister doing it for herself – so are six others.

Electro (off panel), White Rabbit, Beetle, Trapster, Lady Octopus and Scorpion… of course dubbing themselves Syndicate means they aren't as restricted by numbers as previous iterations of the team…
