Is Brian Bendis Bringing Mutant Growth Hormone to the DC Universe? Action Comics 1012 Spoilers

The concept of the Mutant Growth Hormone drug was created by Gerry Conway and Tom Sutton for Amazing Adventures Vol 2 #11 in 1972, invented by Hank McCoy, the BEast while working for the Brand Corporation. It was an attempt to develop a serum that would act as a catalyst for activating latent mutations. However, he was forced to consume an experimental version of his serum to protect his discovery from industrial spies, and it was this that saw McCoy grow fur all over his body and turned his ears, canine teeth, and nails into more pronounced and sharpened forms.

The concept was revived years later by Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev in Daredevil, with crimelord The Owl dealing with MGH as a street drug, giving normal humans temporary mutant powers. He also brought it into his Jessica Jones comic with Michael Gaydos, Alias. This saw Spider-Woman abducted and body used to generate the drug. From this point, MGH began to pop up across the Marvel Universe.

While in the X-Men titles, Bendis had Dazzler similarly kindapped in Madripoor and used to harvest MGH from her for months. Wile Emma Frost took young Jean Grey to Madripoor to break up Blob's MGH smuggling ring. While in his House Of M reality, MGH is used on vegetables, in order to obtain mutant offspring.

Now of course, Brian Bendis has jumped to DC Comics. And as well as taking some names that have been more familar at Marvel, such as Matt Fraction, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Steve Lieber and more to DC, it looks like with today's Action Comics #1012 we have his DC version of MGH – called Apocalypse.
