New Image from “The Lion King” and Bringing Back James Earl Jones

The Disney remake machine is going strong as July gets closer and the third one is coming out. Dumbo didn’t really connect with audiences but the remake of Aladdin is doing better box office wise. Now we have the third one which is a remake of The Lion King. Whether or not audiences are going to turn out for this remake remains to be seen but director Jon Favreau spoke to Empire about the decision to bring back James Earl Jones to voice Mufasa.

“I see it as carrying the legacy across,” Favreau tells Empire in the upcoming new issue of bringing the legendary voice back. “Just hearing him say the lines is really moving and surreal.” And if Jones’ performance had gravitas all that time ago, it’s only increased several decades later. “The timbre of his voice has changed,” Favreau notes. “That served the role well because he sounds like a king who’s ruled for a long time.”

We also have a new image with a good look at Zazu who is voiced by John Oliver. Thus far this looks like the most direct remake of the three that are coming out this year with people pointing out exact shots throughout the recent trailers and TV spots. It will be interesting to see if this movie is different in any way storywise. Maybe that enough for audiences to turn out but maybe not enough critically which is where these movies have really suffered.

After the murder of his father, a young lion prince flees his kingdom only to learn the true meaning of responsibility and bravery.

The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, stars Donald Glover, Beyonce, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, Alfre Woodard, and John Oliver. It will be released on July 19th, 2019.
