Not All Pokémon Can Transfer To "Pokémon Sword" & "Pokémon Shield"

If you currently rely on a very specific Pokémon for all of your fighting needs, you might want to check and make sure they're in the Galor region. During E3 this year we learned a lot about the upcoming new additions to the series with Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, which you can read about some of it soon as our own Madeline Ricchiuto tried it out. But one of the biggest pieces of news to come from it is that not all creatures will be transferable to the new game. For the longest time, the developers have allowed you to bring creatures with you from other games with the Pokémon Bank service. The entire system reads like a tax form and handles about as well as one would in a video gaming sense, but it is possible to bring creatures with you from previous games into current editions.

That, unfortunately, won't be the case this time around. Well, at least, not entirely. Transfers of your Pokémon can still take place in both of the new games, as they talk about in the Nintendo Treehouse video below. However, whatever creature you select MUST be present in the Galor region or they won't be available to you. Since we still don't have a complete list of all the 151 creatures that will be in the game, it's probably going to be a while to see if it is possible, or if you'll have to do some trial-and-error on everything you have to see if they can come with. We'll see how this plays out as we get closer to launch.
