Joker Director Todd Phillips Confirms an R-Rating Plus a New Image

If Dark Phoenix bombing at the box office this month has reminded us of anything is that just being a superhero movie is not enough. There are people that are going to go out and see your movie just because it’s a superhero movie but to make back those massive budgets. Warner Bros. also knows this all too well and they have started budgeting their movies correctly so they can let directors take some risks.

The first of those riskier projects comes out this year. The solo Joker movie is looking to be an interesting little project with a moderate (for a superhero movie) budget of just $55 million. It means that Phillips is able to take a few risks such as limiting his audience to just adults by rating it R. He replied a comment in a recent instagram post that “it will be Rated R. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry.”

Phillips also shared a new black and white image from the movie.

Joker isn’t courting the average superhero fan which means it is very much looking to bring in people who usually avoid the genre. If it works it could be the beginning of a whole new era of superhero movies, unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Does Joker look like a movie you’re planning on checking out this fall? Let us know in the comments.
