The Nintendo Switch Has Surpassed The PS4 in Japanese Sales

Nintendo just got a new feather in their Minish Cap in Japan as the Nintendo Switch has officially surpassed the PS4 in sales in their home country. Famitsu has published new sales reports for the top 10 current games in Japan as well as sales figures for consoles to-date. As of this week, the Nintendo Switch has sold  8,125,637 units, which has now overtaken Sony's PS4 which has sold 8,077,756 units. That PS4 number, we might add, is made up of both PS4 and PS4 Pro sales combined.

It should also be noted that the highest-selling game this week in Japan is Days Gone for the PS4, but while it currently holds the #1 slot, the remaining nine games on the list are all Nintendo Switch titles. So it's pretty clear that the Japanese audience have chosen a new favorite as they're clearly happy Nintendo is back in the mix. Who knows how that will go a year from now when Sony reveals whatever they have in store for the PS5, but considering the numbers we have here, it looks like Nintendo will be holding that #1 spot in Japan for a while.
