Review: PowerA's Nintendo Switch Travel Protection Kit

Last week we reviewed the Nintendo Switch Travel Kit created by PowerA, but that was only half of the travel needs as we also received the Travel Protection Kit. And not just any version either, as we received The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild edition to try out. We've been traveling with this kit for a couple of weeks in cars and plane trips around the U.S. and the world to see how well it held up and dealt with being always on the go. Spoiler: my Nintendo Switch is still working. Here's our full review of how it handles and what it includes.

First off, the outside of the case has a lovely design with black, gray, and gold as you get the Triforce and some decoration over a design of Link about to swing his sword. The top of the case comes with a rubberized handle for you to carry, very reminiscent of cases I've seen for the 3DS over the years, even a little nod to the GameCube. The exterior is a hard plastic shell with a fabric cover that can take a beating. We dropped it a couple times on airplanes out of accident and each time the Switch was perfectly fine with no issues or breaks. The bottom of the case has four raised corner bumps to rest on a table or tray if needed, though I kind of found that part a little useless. The handle was quite useful when I decided to separate it from my luggage and get it ready as the thing to occupy my time on the flight.

Inside the case has two different sections. We'll start witht he base where the Switch's primary resting spot is held in place by a felt-lined interior molded to fit the Switch with both joy-cons attached. The felt does an amazing job of protecting the screen and preventing it from getting broken or scratched up. The flap is held in place by a velcro strap that does the jobe nicely.

On the other side of the flap is a storage spot that can hold nine Switch game cartridges, This is probably the most clever design we've seen in a Nintendo Switch case, as it seems a lot of other have the cartridge storage as an afterthought or just another sleeve within the case. PowerA decided to utilize what they already had as a double-storage area that's quite ingenious. It may not hold as many as some others, but that's fine as you only need so many when traveling anyway.

The top part of the case comes with a zipper mesh pouch for added storage of things you'll need to keep with you. Which came with that lovely Link tag at the bottom just to remind you it's a Zelda case. I used this pouch to keep items like the charging cord from the previously mentioned Travel Kit, as well as my passport when I made a trip overseas because the case made an easier place to hold it.

Already included with the Travel Protection Kit are some of the usual items that we already saw in the Travel Kit, but are included here in case someone didn't buy that kit. We have a protection screen for the Switch, a Zelda-themed cleaning cloth to keep the screen nice and clean, and a pair of earbuds with the 3.5mm jack and rubber-tipped buds with an in-line microphone. All items that come in handy for whatever the travel needs may be.

Overall, I love this case to death. This is about as perfect as it gets when you want something simple and compact for a traveler who is taking their Switch places but likes to pack light. It's simple and sleek, it fits into airplane seats and in a car's glove compartment, and stores a number of items you need to keep it protected and running. The kit also comes in two Mario-themed designs and another Zelda design if you're not digging this one. The price for it isn't too shabby either, as the kit will run you $20. I highly recommend it for people constantly on the go, and those who have kids who drop things. A lot!
