'Killing Eve' Hopes to "Smell Ya Later" in S02, Ep05 Preview

Last week's episode of Killing Eve really notched up the suspense, as well as introducing us to new horrors as the jilted Villanelle (Jody Comer) rose to new heights of cruelty to get Eve's (Sandra Oh) attention.

I have a sneaking suspicion that both characters are being played by their "handlers". Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) is doing a very good job of convincing Villanelle that Eve isn't paying attention to her any more, which is causing our favorite sociopath to spiral out of control a wee bit- first, with a gruesome public killing in a cute pig mask, and then taking a bunch of questionable street drugs and rampaging through a night club bathroom.

The biggest problem, of course, is that Eve actually is getting distracted from Villanelle. She has a new serial killer to track down, one that makes every single murder look like a death by natural causes. Eve is excited to track down this Ghost, a fact that her boss, Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) clued in on all too easily.

Is Carolyn manipulating Eve, and if so, is it to get her to focus on her job, or some other nefarious purpose? Eve was able to figure out the identity of the Ghost very quickly, and "Desperate Times" ends with her getting ready to interrogate the murderer. As her new co-worker Hugo (Edward Bluemel) observed, Eve is desperate to escape boredom, and gets charged up when she's investigating clever criminals.

Both Eve and Villanelle need to get their acts together, and quickly. Villanelle is getting sloppy, and could end up broadcasting her face (and whereabouts) to the world. Eve is neglecting her husband, Niko (Owen McDonnell), who is starting to burn out on being left out of the loop.

And then there's the mysterious secret society known only as The Twelve. What do they have to do with Villanelle, the Ghost, and Carolyn in particular?

We're getting tiny little clues each and every week, and Sunday, May 5th shouldn't be any different on Killing Eve. Get your spyglass out and your notepads ready, and set your reminders to catch "Smell Ya Later" on either BBC America of AMC. Here's a little clue at what's to come:
