Batman writer Tom King isn’t playing mind games when it comes to writing a naked Bane into his Batman comics. King was asked about the villain’s feelings on nudity on Twitter, and he responded with the explanation that Bane is simply more comfortable without clothes, as established by continuity. Apparently, growing up alone in an abandoned, flooded cell for 17 years removes a person’s normal inhibitions, which King would presumably know a lot about from his time working for the CIA.
As established in his 1st appearance and retold in Batman 9, Bane spent some 17 years (ages 4-21) alone, abandoned in a flooded cell. How long do you think his clothes lasted?
This is just how he feels comfortable now. Just Bane being Bane.
Also, dude doesn’t give a fuck. https://t.co/60SWunzQbH

King’s tweet prompted a warning from fellow comic book writer Gail Simone, who told King that he could expect fans to request more naked Bane in issues to come. But King said he’s already working on it.

So like Jesus rose from the grave on Easter Sunday, so will naked Bane once again rise to star in future DC comic books, thanks to the efforts of Tom King. Perhaps as soon as City of Bane begins in Batman #75 this July? Rated “T” for “Totally Nude Bane,” of course.

“City of Bane” begins! Bane’s minions have moved into Gotham City, taken control and are ruling with an iron fist—including rounding up any villain who refuses to sign onto Bane’s program—and Batman is nowhere to be found. At least not the Batman anyone knows. It’s like someone has replaced the real Gotham City with a twisted funhouse-mirror version of it.
Meanwhile, the real Bruce Wayne is on a spiritual quest to regain his fighting spirit after his showdown with his father in the desert. Can the people of Gotham hold on until their protector is strong enough to come to their rescue?
Plus, what does Lex Luthor’s scheming mean for Gotham City when Bane and the villains are already in control?
This extra-sized anniversary issue kicks off a new multi-part storyline that ties together all the threads of the first 74 issues of Tom King’s epic BATMAN run!
