‘Krypton’ Season 2 Cast & Crew Take Viewers Behind the Scenes [PREVIEW]

In addition to the official Krypton season 2 trailer released today by SYFY, the network that dares to screw with your “The Man of Steel” mythology – and we mean that in a good way – has given us this look behind the scenes that reintroduces footage from the second-season trailer alongside perspectives from the series’ cast and crew.

Take a look:

What are the takeaways from this peek behind the curtain?

The storytelling is much bigger. Season 1 kept the scale to a few sets that represented Kandor and the city’s immediate surroundings. The second season appears to be expanding to all of Krypton, other worlds that Krypton is colonizing, and into the Phantom Zone. I think the forest scenes in the trailer and behind the scenes video is the first time we’re seen living vegetation on the series.

We’re in a new timeline now. With Kandor remaining unbottled, Krypton geologically appears to be stable. Society under General Zod is more militaristic and bent on off-world colonial expansion and enslavement. A resistance has formed, resulting in a Kryptonian civil war. Don’t remember reading all of that in your monthly funny books? That’s because the show is taking us to an altered, uncharted timeline where anything can happy to these characters.

The focus is on the villains. As in previous images and video, the behind-the-scenes video pits Krypton’s heroes against a host of villains, including Brainiac (returning from season 1), General Zod (moving from anti-hero in season 1 to full-on villain in season 2), Doomsday (who was released at the end of season 1), and the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo (new to this season).

Not everyone will make it out alive. You thought Seg (Cameron Cuffe) getting trapped in the Phantom Zone last season was harsh? According to our hero himself, “Not all of us are gonna make it.”

Krypton season 2 premieres Wednesday, June 12 on SYFY.
