Oscar Isaac Says Poe "Takes Those Lessons" About Leadership in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was all about breaking down the misconceptions the various characters had about themselves so they could rebuild themselves into something new. For Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, that meant letting go of being a reckless and hotshot pilot and turning into a leader.

Oscar Isaac Says Poe "Takes Those Lessons" About Leadership in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

These were the lessons that Leia and Holdo were trying to teach and Isaac explained in an interview with IGN about how Poe will take these lessons on and lead when Leia is gone.

"He takes those [lessons] on," Isaac said. "Where we start in Episode IX is, they're decimated, there isn't much of a Resistance to even lead, so I think what they're trying to do is find allies, find anybody they can that can help them, help their cause — it just feels like it's totally lost. As the film goes on, I think you start to see him really grapple with not only the lack of leadership — I mean, Leia is gone — but also, how do you be a leader when there doesn't seem to be anybody to lead?"

No one knows how much Leia is going to be in the movie and what they are going to do with her character. It would be odd for her to just vanish and it's going to be tough to figure out a way to have her die that feels respectful as well. However, we can assume that whatever happens will likely happen in the first act of the movie.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, directed by J.J. Abrams, stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams.

It will be flying into theaters on December 20th, 2019.
