Fast Approaching the Most Pages I’ve Ever Drawn – Rob Jones (With Dick Giordano)

Rob Jones writes,

We are just about to reach the end of the Kickstarter for the second issue of my new creator-owned comic, Highspot, and I realized something: While I’ve inked a bunch of mini-series and graphic novels, most of my penciling has been on short stories or one-shots, and the longest of those was 36 pages…

So, with this second issue, I’m within striking distance of my previous best*!

Actually, that applies to this series in a lot of ways. See, despite working in the industry for years, I’ve never really been happy with the way any of my stuff has turned out. That is, until Highspot! With this book I feel as though I have finally hit my stride, or found my voice, and with that I am much happier with the style of the art. I can honestly say this is my best work yet.

That applies to my inking other artists’ pencils as well—and that’s the reason there’s an asterisk to the page count. While each issue is 20 pages, I am still a handful of pages short of my penciling benchmark, because this issue features six pages penciled by comics legend Dick Giordano. I had originally inked these pages, a biography of Alexander the Great, a dozen years ago when I was Dick’s art assistant and this story had just begun gestating. Having now found my artistic sweet spot, it was a blast to go back and give his pencils the proper ink job they deserve.

And like the first issue, I did not want to launch a Kickstarter for it until the issue #2 was complete. So now that it is…

Campaign rewards include both digital and print copies of issue 2, opportunities to grab issue 1 if you missed it last time so you can catch up, digital subscriptions so you’ll get all three issues of this storyline delivered right to you as soon as they are ready, or original art commissions! It’s a small campaign, with a small goal, because this series is supposed to be fun and I don’t think I nor anyone else want to stress over this meeting its goal!

Below are a handful of pages from the first issue, the origin of our main character Kate Carter, as well as a couple of the Alexander the Great pages, penciled by Dick Giordano around 2007, and inked by me in 2018-19.

The Kickstarter ends on April 3, so please check it out. Thanks so much for your time!
