Nintendo and Brace Yourself Games Found Common Ground on Cadence of Hyrule

When it came to making Cadence of Hyrule, people were shocked Nintendo let an indie studio like Brace Yourself Games work on one of their IPs. But as it turns out, it’s exactly what Nintendo wanted to do. In a new interview with IGN, founder of Crypt of the NecroDancer developer Brace Yourself Games Ryan Clark, and Nintendo of America’s Manager of Publisher-Developer Relations Kirk Scott talked about how both companies were on the same page when the idea was formulated to make Cadence of Hyrule – Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda.

“We were considering making a new Nintendo Switch project,” Clark explained to me “and we imagined how cool it would be to have Zelda characters appearing in NecroDancer; say as DLC.” But Nintendo’s interest apparently grew beyond a simple DLC. “To our surprise, Nintendo was extremely interested in the prospect, and before we knew it we were working on a completely new title, mashing up NecroDancer with The Legend of Zelda!”

It’s kind of an interesting concept that all someone had to do was hit up Nintendo with the right pitch and they got to make one of the few third-party Nintendo games featuring one of their most successful creations in The Legend of Zelda. Now we just have to wait for the game to be released to see how well it will do!
