DC Comics has revealed a trailer for Super Sons: The Polarshield Project, the upcoming DC Zoom book written by Ridley Pearson with art by Ile Gonzalez. Set to hit stores in April, the graphic is the first of a trilogy aimed at young readers, who tend to buy lots of comics from the bookstore, but very few from the traditional superhero market.
In a press release, Pearson described learning to write a comic book:
Writing Super Sons was akin to learning how to build a log home from the ground up. I knew logs were involved, and that there would be a chimney, but it took the brilliant Ile Gonzalez to create something worth looking at. I grew up with the black-and-white Superman TV series on WPIX channel 11 out of New York City. And Batman? Wham. Pow. It was Adam West’s Batman that owned me, and I was fortunate to call Adam a friend, late in his life. So, to reimagine the two young sons of those iconic superheroes is a pinch-me project that I’m hoping will keep me writing for years. I’m enthralled. I’m honored. I’m having the time of my life.
While Gonzalez talked about the comic being her first printed work:
This is my first printed project and for it to be something this BIG is exciting and a bit scary! Working with Ridley has been so much fun! He has such a refreshing take on Super Sons, and it’s been great learning from each other to bring this story to life. I wanted the art to be simple and easy to follow but eye-catching for the younger audience. Something that encourages them to keep reading. I hope young fans are as excited to read this book as we were to create it!

Jon Kent and Ian Wayne are opposites in every way except one—they are the sons of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes, Superman and Batman! To uncover a global conspiracy, this unlikely duo will need to learn to trust each other and work together. But who is the mysterious Candace, and what secrets does she hold that could be the key to everything?
The team is dealing with a precarious climate disaster—the polar ice caps have nearly melted away, causing devastation to coastal cities. Erratic, deadly weather forces everyone inland, tearing families apart. Violence and anarchy have become commonplace. Earth is facing its greatest crisis and with Superman and Batman nowhere to be found—it will be up to the Super Sons to save the world!
Super Sons: The PolarShield Project is available to preorder now and will hit stores everywhere books are sold on April 2, 2019.
