Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Gets a Poster and a New Release Date

Well here's a movie we all sort of forgot about. Maleficent was kind of a big deal when it came out in 2014. It did well domestically, pulling in a little over $240 million, but hit hard in a big way internationally with another $500 million. Disney greenlit a sequel but it kind of got lost in the shuffle that is the absolutely bonkers amount of big-budget movies that the studio is working on. The sequel finally went into production last May and wrapped by August but there hasn't been any movement since. Disney decided to change that today by dropping not only the official title but a poster and release date on twitter.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Gets a Poster and a New Release Date

That's an interesting title and poster. We only have a vague plotline to go with as far as information on the story. The first movie might have hit hard but a lot has changed in the last five years. While this isn't a remake it does fall in that camp and we already have Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King coming out this year. Are people still going to be interested in another by the time October rolls around?

Summary: The complex relationship of Maleficent and Aurora continues to be explored as they face new threats to the magical land of the Moors.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, directed by Joachim Rønning, stars Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Ed Skrein, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Jenn Murray. It will be released on October 18, 2019.
