Jeph Loeb Talks Legion Showrunner Noah Hawley's Passion and a New Era of Marvel TV

One of the most important things for creative projects is passion. A project that fails but has passion behind it always more interesting than a passionless project that succeeds. That kind of passion seems to be important to a company like Marvel. They have Disney backing them up so they can risk taking a chance on something completely insane. Legion is one of those TV shows because, on paper, it sounds like something no one in their right mind would greenlight. When the pilot aired many people couldn't believe what they were watching, ignoring the fact that they managed to pull it off. It was the passion of showrunner Noah Hawley and the fact that Marvel trusted his vision for a show no one ever asked for, as Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb told Decider,

"I'm assuming that if you've got close enough for us to have a conversation that you have a talent, that's sort of a given. So it really comes down to passion," Loeb said. "Legion is a perfect example. Legion is a story about a damaged man who is looking to be loved. That's the story. The fact that he can change reality with his mind is the Marvel of it, but if you don't buy into that first part then the rest of it is just noise."

Legion is coming to an end with this season and Marvel has recently canceled all of the shows that were over on Netflix. While Loeb didn't mention any specifics at the time, he did say that he didn't see all of these shows ending or getting canceled as Marvel TV coming to an end but more that it was changing.

"In terms of the future, there are quite a few things that we can't talk about yet and when we start to, I think people will start to go 'Oh, the restaurant wasn't closing. You just have a new menu because you have a fabulous new chef. Got it, I'll be there Thursday,'" Loeb said. "There is stuff going on all the time. I think it's also realistic to think when you have 11, 12, 14 shows that some of them are going to rest."

Those changes do include four recently announced cartoons from extremely interesting creative teams, sixth and seventh seasons for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a possible third season of Runaways, and a second season of Cloak and Dagger returning this spring.

Summary: David Haller is a troubled young man diagnosed as schizophrenic, but after a strange encounter, he discovers special powers that will change his life forever.

Legion, created by Noah Hawley, stars Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, and Amber Midthunder. Legion season 3 will air sometime this June on FX.
