When Fox announced that they were going to cancel Brooklyn Nine-Nine after five seasons, the internet decided that was not okay. The show is frequently cited as one of the best comedies on TV right now but poor marketing on the part of Fox and subpar ratings meant that the show was doomed. That doom didn’t last very long since less than 30 hours later the show got picked up for a sixth season over on NBC. One of the reasons it got picked up was that a bunch of big celebrities came out in favor of the show. One of those celebrities was Lin Manuel Miranda and it sounds like the crew of the Nine-Nine want to thank Miranda for his part in saving the show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Miranda will appear in the ninth episode of this season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine as David Santiago, one of the brothers of Amy Santiago.
This isn’t the first time a fan of the show ended up making a guest appearance. Gina Rodriguez was a fan favorite to come on and play the love interest of Rosa Diaz and that ended up happening. There were several other big names that came out in support of the show when it was canceled including Mark Hamill and Sean Astin. Patton Oswalt also voiced his support for the show at the time, though he has appeared as Fire Marshall Boone in 2013 and 2014. Maybe we’ll see those faces next.
Summary: Jake Peralta, an immature, but talented N.Y.P.D. detective in Brooklyn’s 99th Precinct, comes into immediate conflict with his new commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Ray Holt.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller. New episodes air on Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.
