Doctor Who: Scratchman – Tom Baker's New 'Who' Novel Gets Trailer from BBC Books [VIDEO]

You knew this was coming. We've already looked at the other promotional videos for Doctor Who: Scratchman, the new Doctor Who novel written by none other than the 4th Doctor himself, Tom Baker – and now we're getting the official book trailer, with an audio sample of Baker himself reading for the audiobook:

Hurrah!

Baker had a religious education and nearly became a monk before deciding on a career as an actor, so it's not a surprise that he would think about The Devil from time to time. The plot for Scratchman was originally a screenplay Baker had co-written with former co-star the late Ian Marter (Doctor Harry Sullivan) in the early seasons of his run as the Doctor. The BBC was interested in making the movie, but it fell by the wayside. Baker would eventually leave the show, with a copy of the screenplay rediscovered only a few years ago.

Baker decided to turn it into a novel with the help of frequent Doctor Who novelist James Goss, who had previously adapted pisodes "The Pirate Planet", "City of Death" and the unproduced Douglas Adams-penned script "Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen."

In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker's incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost forty years in the making.

The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island, when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures – hideous scarecrows, who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all. But it doesn't go to plan – the time travellers have fallen into a trap, and Scratchman is coming for them.

With the fate of the universe hanging in the balance, the Doctor must battle an ancient force from another dimension, one who claims to be the Devil. Scratchman wants to know what the Doctor is most afraid of. And the Doctor's worst nightmares are coming out to play…

Doctor Who: Scratchman by Tom Baker is now available in hardcover, ebook, audiobook and audio CD.
