How Complex is Naomi's Future? (Spoilers)

Today's Naomi #1 by Brian Michael Bendis, David Walker and Jamal Campbell looks at a small town in the DC Universe, suffering an upheaval in the wake of brief incursion by Superman battling Mongul.

Which includes the therapy session for teenage adoptee Naomi, who always manages to miss Superman turning up.

How Complex is Naomi's Future? (Spoilers)

The Superman complex in our world was named as such by Dr Frederick Wertham, author of the discredited Seduction Of The Innocent, and describes an unhealthy sense of responsibility, or the belief that everyone else lacks the capacity to successfully perform one or more tasks and that such a person may feel a constant need to "save" others.'

But in the DC Universe, which had no Wertham in it, it means something else.

How Complex is Naomi's Future? (Spoilers)

Bendis and Walker redefine this in the DC Universe as the fantasy of a child that they were adopted and their true identity is something special…

Naomi was adopted. And the first issue indicates that she is very special indeed. Even if everyone wants to erase her background – or have had it erased.

And, though it isn't alluded to in this issue, with Bleeding Cool reporting that Bendis is to write a new Legion Of The Super-Heroes series. Could Naomi have been sent back in time from the 31st century and have been hiding out here ever since? Just a suggestion… and may lead to quite a complex Complex.
