Nintendo Announces Two Official Esports Tournaments for 2019

Nintendo has announced today that they will be running two official esports tournaments for Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Starting in February, the company will be starting up qualifying matches for both the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019 and the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019, which will eventually lead up to the finals happening at PAX East on March 30th. The Smash tournament will be split into four regions across North America for anyone to travel to and attempt to qualify (as long as you register), while the Splatoon 2 tourney will be done exclusively online. "This inclusive pair of tournaments is a great way for anyone to show off their skills while playing two of their favorite Nintendo Switch games," said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Nintendo games are for everyone, and offer a unique combination of social competitive fun. That's why we're opening the qualifying rounds to fans of all skill levels."
