The National PUBG League, the premier esports league for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in North America has released the schedule and format for 2019. The 2019 NPL season is being produced in partnership with OGN and will consist of three distinct phases.
Each phase will feature four different types of events:
- The National PUBG League, which features the top professional teams in the NA region
- NPL Contenders, which is a league for up-and-coming teams to try and break into the NPL ranks
- NPL Royale, a three-day live weekend event that pits the 16 NPL teams against the 16 NPL Contenders teams
- NPL Relegation, which is a three day event that features the bottom six NPL teams and the top ten NPL Contenders teams from each phase. These events will take place two weeks after each NPL phase and will determine placement in the next phase.
The 16 pro teams competing in the NPL are:
- Ghost Gaming
- Lazarus Esports
- Noble Esports
- Shoot to Kill
- Smokin Aces
- Spacestation Gaming
- Team Envy
- Tempo Storm
- Vicious Gaming
- Why Tempt Fate
- Wildcard Gaming
NPL Phase 1 will begin on February 1st, with matches running on Fridays at 5 pm PT and Saturdays at 2pm PT. The first phase will run for five weeks and conclude in March. Phase 2 will follow the same format and start on May 3rd. The third and final phase will begin on September 6th.
NPL Contenders matches will take place every Tuesday, with four weeks of competition per phase. Phase 1 begins on February 5th, Phase 2 starts May 7th, and Phase 3 starts September 10th.
NPL Royale Phase 1 will take place on February 22nd and run through the 24th, while Phase 2 of the Royale will run May 24th through 26th, and the final Royale will be held on September 27th through the 29th.
NPL Relegation Phase 1 will take place on March 22nd to the 24th, Phase 2 on June 21st and 23rd, and Phase 3 on October 25th through the 27th.
The top teams in each phase will move on to represent North America in several global esport events which culminate in the Global Championship in November where the top PUBG teams in the world vy for the top spot in the $1 Million USD prize pool.
