The John Wick series sort of came out of nowhere. Back in 2014, no one had ever heard of the movie and no one really talked about it until it started to make the rounds at the festivals. It went on to be a critical darling, helped kick off the careers of the directors involved, and is one of the best action series to come out in the last decade. We’re getting the third entry in the series and director Chad Stahelski shared a new image with USA Today and spoke about how we do love to see our heroes suffer.
“I’m a big fan of Joseph Campbell’s mythologies of the hero and what he would have defined as the theater of pain, or sometimes we call it ‘The Die Hard Conundrum’: We just to like to beat the (stuffing) out of our heroes,” director Chad Stahelski says, promising more of Wick’s origins will be revealed. “If you choose that kind of lifestyle, you’re going to be pretty beat up. So we like John Wick to suffer and think Keanu loves for John Wick to suffer, too.”
It sounds like this movie is going to be a rough ride for our favorite dog loving assassin which isn’t that surprising. He currently has the entire underground assassin world gunning for him so things are bound to get ugly when this movie drops in May. As long as no one hurts the dogs.
John Wick: Chapter 3, directed by Chad Stahelski, will star Keanu Reeves, Ruby Rose, Ian McShane, Common, Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, Mark Dacascos, Jason Mantzoukas, and Halle Berry. It will be released on May 17th, 2019.
