Daniel Bryan Finally Elevates the WWE Championship

For the main title-holder on WWE Smackdown Live, despite reigning over the objectively superior show, there must be something of an inferiority complex knowing that the champion of rival brand Raw is the champion of the entire universe. It also doesn't help that Raw's Universal Champion is Brock Lesnar, who enjoys the benefit of only having to actual wrestle a few times a year to defend the belt.

On the other hand, Smackdown's WWE Championship is, after all, the belt that Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena, and AJ Styles held, so it should probably have more prestige than Lesnar's occasional prop title. Well, current WWE champion Daniel Bryan may be looking to take the championship to the stars as well, as at a WWE house show, Bryan announced that he is the champion of the planet!

"I am no longer the people's champion," Bryan declared. "I am the planet's champion."

"I'm out here defending the planet from you heathens every single night," Bryan continued. "And I don't care if it's AJ Styles. I don't care if it's the great John Cena. Tonight, I am going to prove why I am The Planet's Champion."

Bryan went on to defeat Cena in a cage match that night, after smacking Cena with his Planetary Championship. However, Cena did get his revenge after the match was over.

Technically, being champion of the planet isn't really any different than being champion of the world, but it does have a more galactic feel to it. It's still not on the level of a Universal Championship, but hey, at least it actually appears on television more than once every three months.
