If you notice some jarring differences in the art style of next week’s The Best Defense: Immortal Hulk #1, please do not be alarmed. The change is the result of the addition of a fill-in artist and writer, contributing select panels to the first issue of the latest Defenders revival event.
As you’ve no doubt determined, faithful readers, that second panel is one by the legendary creative team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. And if you’re wondering how Marvel managed to get these high profile creators to contribute work to this comic, especially being as they are both deceased, well, as it turns out, reusing old artwork isn’t just for variant covers anymore. What you see above is a panel from the original Incredible Hulk #1, with a little bit of remastering and some creative lettering.
Will Lee and Kirby have any more panels in the issue? You can find out when The Best Defense: Immortal Hulk #1 hits stores next Wednesday.
