Eiji Aonuma Teases Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Switch

Zelda series Producer Eiji Aonuma made a few remarks on stage at a Zelda concert in Osaka, Japan this weekend that appeared to indicate a Skyward Sword port for the Nintendo Switch system. According to a Weibo post (via Eurogamer), Aonuma teased the port to the audience, saying "I know what you are thinking, Skyward Sword for Switch, right?"

From Eurogamer:

Last night, Zelda aficionados reported a possible tease of the project from series boss Eiji Aonuma, who appeared on-stage at a Zelda music concert in Osaka, Japan.

Nintendo is yet to comment on the reports, but a much-shared post on social network Weibo quotes Aonuma as having said: "I know what you are thinking, Skyward Sword for Switch, right?" To which fans responded with applause.

Now, Aonuma's remarks are far from an official confirmation that a port, remaster, or remake is in the works. However, in the games industry, such obvious "nod and wink" moments are often prophetic. So, naturally, fans are already celebrating this one.

Nintendo has not commented on the Skyward Sword for Switch rumors yet, but we will update you as the story develops.

Which means, for now, this one is officially still just a rumor.

Skyward Sword is the sixteenth entry in the mainline Zelda series, which released in 2011 for the Wii and Wii U. It was later released on the Wii U eShop in 2016. The game was notable for relying heavily on the Wii MotionPlus device, though the motion controls were notoriously sloppy and made difficult boss fights harder than they needed to be. The game lacked the usual Zelda overworld and instead used smaller stages that were designed to be repeated with large changes between each run.

Due to the many shakeup Skyward Sword made to the existing Zelda template, it's a source of much controversy among fans.
