Comixology Bestseller List – 17th November 2018 – Mister Miracle at 1, Uncanny X-Men at 7…

Matthew Snyder writes,

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

So this was a very loaded week, with Marvel and DC putting out their top books to do battle. (I like to think they both schedule their releases to win a meaningless Top 10 battle every week). And by a 6-4 score, Marvel bests DC in the Top 10. And what a Top 10 battle it was. It was so filled with bestsellers, Detective Comics fell all the way to No. 9, and Flash, Captain America Titans got kicked out of the Top 10. There just wasn't enough room. The final issue of Mister Miracle won the week, jumping the previously unbeaten Fantastic Four.  Superman, Avengers, Darth Vader and Amazing Spider-Man all look steady with no signs of faltering.

G. Willow Wilson's first issue of Wonder Woman has done well, debuting at No. 8 on a very competitive Wednesday. WW had been slipping very slightly all year out of the Top 10, but now it's DC's 3rd bestselling issue this week, beating Detective Comics. So much can we attribute the boost to the Witching Hour crossover with Justice League Dark, and how much can we attribute it to Wilson? Personally, I think the credit goes more towards Wilson, but I'll let you in comments decide.

How well should a brand new X-Men title do? No, that wasn't a rhetorical question, I'm seriously asking. How well should a new era of X-Men, Uncanny X-Men #1, sell? I mean seriously, Marvel ended Gold, Blue and Red for this. It's a 64 page debut issue (289 with the digital version: You get a cover gallery, script, inked and color pages and a character design). You think this would be a huge event, and it would take one of spots at the very top. And yet, Uncanny X-Men #1 makes its debut at No. 7.

Was I expecting too much? I don't know. The $7.99 price tag probably didn't do it any favors, even though page-wise it was a good value. Still, I don't think you can call landing in the Top 10 a failure. Anyways, this is the first issue in a ten issue arc, with a new release every week. If readers really do have X-Men fatigue, we'll find out in the next few months, or if it's just another dumb theory of mine.

I was completely shocked how great Life is Strange did in its first issue, hitting No. 13 in its debut, making it the best selling indie comic of the week. It probably would've made the Top 10 if had released any other week, a first for Titan Comics. Video game comics do not do this well: the best one yet had been Bloodborne, which usually sold in the 30's and 40's. I actually wasn't aware of this comic's significance, but once I read the description I immediately bought a copy. Never have I felt so good over a final decision in a game, because someone made an entire comic validating it.

That's right: (SPOILER) I choose my bae over the bay.  And I'd do it again. Fight me.
