Blumhouse Television is partnering with Amazon Studios to produce eight new genre films together. The deal was announced this afternoon. The eight films will debut on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service, and will be thematically linked together. There have been no creator or casting announcements so far, or a release date for any of the films. Blumhouse Television is flexing its muscles a bit, having already successfully transferred the popular Purge franchise to television on the USA Network. They also have a year-long series airing on Hulu right now, Into the Dark. Those films are centered around whatever holiday taking place that month.

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke championed the deal in a statement:

“Jason Blum has built an empire based on fear, shock and all things spinetingling. He has redefined the horror genre for fans who are hungry for high concept scares. Whether it’s found footage, a socially conscious terror comedy or a pure sinister adrenaline ride, he reinvented and infused the genre with cultural relevancy. We can’t wait to see the nightmares he brings direct to service for our Prime Video global audience.”

Jason Blum had this to say about the deal:

“We are delighted Amazon is entrusting Blumhouse to deliver its signature thrills and chills to its global audience through this deal. This is a great opportunity for Blumhouse Television to empower underrepresented filmmakers offering a fresh take on the dark genres loved by fans the world over”
