Charging Like a Boss: We Review the Logitech Powered for iPhone

If you've purchased any of the newer iPhones from the "8" model and up, you've probably taken advantage of the new cord-free charging option. The minute that hit the market, a lot of people tried to find their own ways of helping iPhone users out without doing anything crazy that might break their phone. One of those people was Logitech, who created the simply titled "Powered" device to wirelessly charge your phone. But how well does it actually work?

So let's get to the basics. This is a single dock-like unit with a three-foot power cord. Beyond the cord, there are only two parts to this device that are connected to each other in the base and the charging plate. All you have to do is plug it in and lay your phone in an upright position against it and the charging will start. I drained my phone's battery to 50% to time it on a cord and on the base with no apps running int he background, and they charged at relatively the same time, give or take a couple minutes. If you are running material, much like other chargers, the phone may heat up as you use it while charging it, so keep that in mind.

One of the best features about this is that the base can hold your phone horizontally as well as vertically. So if you decide to watch a video while it charges,  you can, and it's angled just right to give you a proper view. I found this feature particularly helpful when using Facetime or another streaming video service like Skype, as you have a proper mount for the phone while it continues to charge in the background. I also enjoyed putting this in my bedroom and watching Netflix on my phone as I went to sleep and then seeing my alarm come up in the morning.

I feel like Logitech got this right! It's simple and practical for a number of things. There are only two drawbacks. The first is your case, in that, if you have a bulky case that has a lot of material between the charger and the phone, it might not be able to charge it as there's just too much in the way. But that's a problem with most wireless chargers. The second that might throw some people is the price at $80. It's a little bit much to ask for seeing as how Apple's own wireless charger only costs $40. But while Apple's lays flat on a surface and you can't do much with it beyond checking the time, this one is for functionality and gives you the chance to use your phone at an upright angle to get things done with it. If that's appealing to you, then it's worth the price.
