Happy Death Day 2U Poster Thinks We Want Another Cupcake

Happy Death Day 2U, the sequel to last years hit Happy Death Day is on the way next year. While you can see the trailer already in theaters this weekend with showings of Halloween (but not online yet), we have the first poster, revealed online earlier this afternoon. Featuring the familiar mask from the first one, if the movie thinks we would ever ever eat a cupcake given to us by it, the movie is sadly mistaken. Check it out below:

Jessica Rothe leads the returning cast of HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U, the follow-up to Blumhouse’s (Split, Get Out, The Purge series) surprise 2017 smash hit of riveting, repeating twists and comic turns. This time, our hero Tree Gelbman (Rothe) discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.

How funny is it that this movie was a hit? I thought the first one was really well done, and was a star-making performance by Jessica Rothe. She spoke to Collider not that long ago about the sequel, implying that there will be way more to this one than just another straight horror sequel.

“Chris has done this incredible thing where the sequel, the way he described it to me, elevates the movie from being a horror movie – and I wouldn’t even say it’s just a horror movie because it’s a horror, comedy, rom-com drama – into a Back to the Future type of genre film where the sequel joins us right from where we left off, it explains a lot of things in the first one that didn’t get explained, and it elevates everything. I was really pleased to know that we weren’t just gonna be pushing all the buttons that people loved the first time, over and over again, ‘cause I think that gets old.”

Happy Death Day 2U, starring Jessica Rothe, Isreal Broussard, Suraj Sharma, Sarah Yarkin, and Ruby Modine opens on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019.
