Batman, A Hypocrite in Today’s Batman #57 (Again) – Spoilers

Posted by October 17, 2018 Comment

Today, amongst all the Mark Buckingham Fables, Bruce Wayne goes up against the KGBeast, the assassin who shot Nightwing… and turned him from Dick Grayson into Ric Grayson. And making Alfred sad in today’s Nightwing #51.

Bruce Wayne disagrees and has been through the snow against the KGBeast’s bullets in Batman #56. It can only end in one way.

But Batman is not a killer, indeed in the most recent Red Hood we saw him lecturing Jason Todd even as he informed him of Roy Harper’s death. Still, he;s not going to make it easy…

But, you know, he can still fashion some kind of stretcher, some kind of pulley system, some kind of sled, maybe tame a local huskie or polar bear, he is Batman after all and…

Blimey. I mean, that is a death sentence. I know, this is comics, and somehow that’s . And it’s leaving him at the bottom of a pit, as the fable told in this story may have it. Or rather Batman making a pit for himself, one that he can never step out of…

Back to Detective Comics #27 and a punch that went too far?

Or in Detective Comics #30, a kick that did the same?

But of course, that was in the thirties and forties. What about the eighties? Well, the one that sticks out most would be Batman #430, in battle with the killer KGBeast a few decades back… knowing that if the Beast was captured, he would just be repatriated to Russia without punishment.

Trapping him, imprisoning him…

… and letting him starve to death. It would take Marv Wolfman to retcon that.

Well, history is repeating itself today in Batman #57. Intentionally I am sure. Where is Marv Wolfman when you need him? Maybe he called the, um, police again?

(W) Tom King (A) Tony S. Daniel, Mark Buckingham, Andrew Pepoy
The KGBeast isn’t working alone. As the Cold War between Batman and the Russian killer heats up, Batman’s nose for mystery gets to twitching when he suspects there’s more to the KGBeast’s attacks than initially thought. Not only does this tie back to the court case Bruce Wayne sat on involving Mr. Freeze, there’s another villainous Gotham ghoul in play-but whom? In Shops: Oct 17, 2018 SRP: $3.99
