Invasion From Planet Wrestletopia Jobs to Starburns Industries Press at Rose City Comic-Con

It’s a new golden age for pro wrestling comics, it seems, with another announced today by Starburns Industries Press. Invasion From Planet Wrestletopia, a no-holds-barred, action-comedy sci-fi series, is joining the publisher, from writers Matt Entin and Ed Kuehnel, artist Dan Schkade, colorist Marissa Louise, and letterer Dave Lanphear.

A press release contained the usual quotes, though with more self-deprecating humor as befits SBI’s image:

From Entin and Kuehnel:

We’re excited to join the the Starburns Industries family. And by family, we mean group of adult cousins who barely know each other and are struggling to make small talk at an awkward family reunion.”

We’ve been refining Invasion from Planet Wrestletopia for the better part of a decade. While it’s definitely infused with our shared love of pro wrestling, this isn’t a series written just for the “smarks” — wrestling fan or not, you’ll find a lot to love with this action-packed, hilarious story that has a strong emotional core.

And Trevor Richardson, Starburns Industries Press’ Vice-President of Acquisitions:

Invasion from Planet Wrestletopia is the greatest thing to happen to comics since the turn of the century. Correction, I meant Turner D. Century, whose attempts to eradicate everyone in San Francisco under the age of sixty-five with a time horn was thwarted by Spider-Man in Marvel Team Up issue #120. Did I say ‘turn of the century’? I’m so bad with words!

If you’re looking for more fun like the press release quotes above, the first two issues of the comic will be available at Starburns’ booth (#649) at Rose City Comic-Con this weekend, with artist Dan Schkade at the booth on Saturday from 1-3PM.

Here’s a preview of the action:

Inspired by the colorful days of 1980s pro-wrestling, the six-issue mini-series kicks off when disgruntled professional wrestler “Rock ‘n Roll” Rory Landell declares himself “galactic champion of the universe”, which a hostile planet of wrestling aliens takes as a declaration of war from Planet Earth.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
