Valiant Will Ship Glass Variants Directly to Comic Book Stores

Back at San Diego Comic-Con, Valiant Entertainment introduced their latest innovation in variant covers: the glass variant. Yesterday, they revealed the details on the first-ever glass variant, for Bloodshot Rising Spirit #1, drawn by Doug Braithwaite. In the press release, the ordering incentives were explained:

Retailers, take note: the BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT #1 Glass Variant Cover can be obtained for every qualifying order of 250 copies of BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT #1. There is no limit per store. Orders will open in late August through Diamond Comics.

We misinterpreted “no limit per store” to mean that retailers could order as many variants as they want if they order 250 copies, but it turns out we got that wrong (we know, shocking). Actually, Valiant corrected us in an email, the glass variants will be sent for every 250 copies ordered.

But we did learn another interesting fact from Valiant’s correction. Though many expressed skepticism that the glass variants would make it intact to comic book shops due to Diamond’s… er… handling procedures, it turns out there’s no need to worry. The glass variants will be shipped directly to stores from the Valiant offices, and so should arrive unmolested.

They’re still glass though, so if you’re lucky enough to get one, you can hope lots of others are clumsy enough to break them so yours can rise in value. That’s speculation life!

Bloodshot Rising Spirit #1 arrives on November 14th, with a final order cutoff of October 22.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
