First Look at NXT Takeover: Proving Ground by Dennis Hopeless and Kendall Goode

BOOM! Studios has released a first look preview of the upcoming WWE: NXT Takeover – Proving Ground #1, the second in a series of one-shots replacing BOOM!’s WWE comic in September as part of the “get people to buy four comics instead of one” marketing initiative. Written by Dennis Hopeless with art by Kendall Goode, this issue focuses on Finn Balor‘s rivalry with Samoa Joe.

Editor Chris Rosa said of the book in a press release:

The rivalry between Finn Bálor and Samoa Joe is a perfect example of what makes NXT so special, seamlessly blending action, athleticism and nuanced storytelling for an intense experience. WWE: NXT TAKEOVER – PROVING GROUND #1 takes you even deeper into how these two former allies became bitter rivals.

The details:

NXT has become WWE’s third global brand, and the launching pad for some of today’s biggest Superstars including Seth Rollins, Charlotte Flair, Braun Strowman, Alexa Bliss and many more. Now, in WWE: NXT TAKEOVER – PROVING GROUND #1, learn the truth behind the rivalry between Finn Balor and Samoa Joe that captivated audiences worldwide as they went from tag team partners to bitter enemies battling for the NXT Championship.

Each issue of WWE: NXT TAKEOVER will focus on different Superstars from different eras of NXT:

Week One – WWE: NXT TAKEOVER – THE BLUEPRINT #1: Learn how WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes helped build this iconic brand in 2012.
Week Two – WWE: NXT TAKEOVER – PROVING GROUND #1: The Demon King, Finn Bálor, enters the NXT Universe and is confronted by Samoa Joe.
Week Three – WWE: NXT TAKEOVER – INTO THE FIRE #1: The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka, begins her rise to the NXT Women’s Championship, and former Champion Paige returns to scout for potential allies.
Week Four – WWE: NXT TAKEOVER – REDEMPTION #1: Johnny Gargano and Shayna Baszler make the move to NXT and immediately leave their mark.

All four books will have connecting variants by Marco D’Alfonso, and regular covers by Lucas Werneck, Aaron Dana, David Nakayama, and Audrey Mok. Look for Proving Ground #1 in stores on September 12th.
