First Look at the Two Decepticons in 'Bumblebee'

When it comes to Bumblebee, we only have a basic idea of what the plot is going to be. There hasn't been that much of an indication about what kind of villains we're going to deal with. There was one shot in the trailer that showed a Decepticon, but now Entertainment Weekly has a first look at the two villains of the three villains that are going to make life difficult for our favorite yellow Transformer.

"The two main villains are Decepticon muscle cars," says director Travis Knight.

The red one is Shatter, voiced by Angela Bassett, who takes on the form of a cherry-red Plymouth Satellite. The blue one is Dropkick, voiced by Justin Theroux, who takes on the form of a blue AMC Javelin. That still leaves the flying Decepticon, but Knight promises that these villains will have more personality that we can seen from Transformers villains in the past.

"When the cast is too big, and you have a finite amount of time, there's only so much you can do to create an investment in them," Knight says. "This is a more personal, intimate, and character-driven story, so it felt right to keep the villain plot relatively simple and contained. If you keep things lean, you can add a lot of other stuff on top of it that makes it more enjoyable."

Perhaps this means they'll be more than just one-note villains. It would a nice change of pace to see a little more nuance in our movie about giant talking robot aliens that change into vehicles.

Summary: On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.

Bumblebee, directed by Travis Knight, stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Rachel Crow, and Pamela Adlon. It will be released on December 21st.
