As Long as You Keep Buying Skyrim, Bethesda Will Keep Releasing It
It looks like, at least for the next few years, Bethesda Softworks will keep releasing versions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim because people keep buying it. In a new story released by GameIndustry.biz, the report includes an interview with Bethesda's Todd Howard, who basically admitted that they keep releasing versions of the game because they're simply meeting the consumer demand for it.
"Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later; millions of people every month are playing that game," Howard replied. "That's why we keep releasing it. If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it."
"Every year there's a new idea we can't do, and a new technology for something that excites us," he said. "I'd say I want it to be sustainable. Eventually there will come a day where I'm not making games at Bethesda. Hopefully that's a long time away. But I want to make sure that who we are, what the worlds are, what the company is, that's sustainable far beyond me."
Essentially, as long as you keep buying it, they'll keep making it. So we look forward to the retro-NES classic version and the PS1 version they'll eventually need to make between now and when ES6 comes out.
