For the First Time in an Age, Batman Beats Walking Dead on the Comixology Bestseller List

For the first time on the digital bestseller list, Batman has dethroned The Walking Dead on the first week of the month. And all it took was a incredibly hyped landmark wedding. I thought the NYT spoiler article and headline would really hurt the issue's chances at No. 1, but perhaps it was just too big. (Or maybe I'm lousy at comic predictions. Both seem likely). Anyways, did Batman #50 hit No. 1 because of or in spite of the article? Or maybe it had little to no effect at all. We can speculate all day.

A week after Marvel could only manage to put 1 book in the Top 10, they posted four in the Top 10 this week. While we may roll our eyes at Marvel's constant relaunches, you can't deny that "Fresh Start" has been an improvement. While Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Thor have roughly remained the same, Avengers, Captain America, Deadpool, Immortal Hulk, Tony Stark: Iron Man, and Venom are all doing better on average than their previous incarnations. In some cases, they have improved by double digits. It's still early, but so far Fresh Start appears to be a success.

Brian Michael Bendis's Man of Steel wraps up in a high note this week. In six straight weeks, it ranked in the following spots: 4, 4, 1, 3, 2, 4. Now that Superman and Action Comics are changing to monthlies under the tutelage of "The Great One", we'll see if they can keep up the numbers of this miniseries.

We have a pair of Top 10 debuts this week: Ta-Nehisi Coates's Captain America at No. 6 and Joelle Jones's Catwoman at No. 8. This is also the first Top 10 appearance in the Comixology Bestseller List for both writers. Congrats!
