Kevin Feige: The MCU Will Someday Have More Female Heroes than Male Heroes

The Marvel universe has been very male dominated from the beginning. Black Widow was the only female Avenger in the first movie, and she was a supporting player who still doesn't have her own movie. But times are changing, and people are desperate for more diversity in their superhero movies. While Warner Bros. might have beat Marvel to the box office with a solo female heroine getting her own movie, Marvel appears to be moving in the right direction. The Wasp gets to share the title of the Ant-Man sequel, and Captain Marvel comes out next March. The future is female, and it sounds like Kevin Feige might agree. According to an interview with Screen Rant, Feige believes that more than half of the heroes we see on screen in the future will be women.

"But, as the plan goes forward I think frankly we'll be … you know, eventually I think we're going to reach a time where it's not just … listen, it would be amazing to see all of our female characters the way we have seen … most, never all male, but primarily male. I think we're getting to the point soon where we have so many great female characters that those are just our heroes as opposed to when are they all female, all male. It's just the Marvel heroes, more than half of which will be women."

Kevin Feige: The MCU Will Someday Have More Female Heroes than Male Heroes

A photo came out last year of all of the women of the Marvel Cinematic Universe posing together and started up the discussion of an all-female team. Then there was a fantastic scene in Avengers: Infinity War which saw Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and Okoye team up. An all-female team exists in the Marvel comics canon, called A-Force — is this a movie Marvel is looking to make in the future? We can hope so.

Summary: As Scott Lang balances being both a Super Hero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.

Ant-Man and The Wasp, directed by Peyton Reed, stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Hannah John-Kamen, Michael Douglas, and Michael Peña. It will be released on July 6th.
