Which of Today's Spider-Man Comics Will Make Make You Cry More?

Today sees the publication of Amazing Spider-Man #301 and Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #1. The former is Dan Slott's final Spider-man story before he jumped ship to Tony Stark: Iron Man #1 also out today (and advance reviewed here). And the latter is drawn by Mike Allred and Laura Allred, Dan's team on his Silver Surfer comic book.

Both are 'very special issues' and try to bring light on earlier moments in Spider-Man's life. And dovetail right onto Uncle Ben, the man who gave Peter Parker – and Spider-Man – a moral grounding denied to others, and the sense that with great power must come great responsibility. He died that Spider-Man might live.

But don't worry, both are very action-oriented. Amazing Spider-Man #801 tells a story of Spider-Man's earliest tales, foiled a corner store robbery and saving the life of one man in the process, a life then well lived.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #1 tells the story of J Jonah Jameson and how the decisions he had made as a newspaper publisher and mayor had consequences, including a threat on his life. But also how Jonah J Jameson tries to give chance in life to those who have been denied them – and that includes Peter Parker.

Oh, and an extra story with Chris Bachalo set in Uncle Ben's graveyard.

These comics should totally have been bagged with Kleenex. But which will get through more sheets? The fight is on…
