Final Fantasy VII Remake a No-Show at the Square Enix Press Conference

Despite everyone's hopes and dreams, the Square Enix E3 press conference was short and mostly focused on the company's smaller games. The new announcements focused on Final Fantasy XIVDragon Quest XI, and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, while the rest of the show was full of trailers we'd kind of seen before. A lot of it was footage that dropped in pieces during the Microsoft show yesterday, with a bit more commentary and maybe a tiny bit of new gameplay or cinematic content.

Despite all of the hype, both the Avengers Project and the Final Fantasy VII Remake were missing, which is a damn shame. Production on Avengers has really ramped up in the last few months as Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal have finished up work on Shadow of the Tomb Raider. And we haven't seen much of Final Fantasy VII Remake since the initial reveal back at E3 2015.

Now, I'm firmly of the opinion that the FFVII Remake is still heavy in development, which is why the game has been pretty darn quiet for the last few years. However, there were a ton of rumors that the game would at least show up at the Square Enix E3 show. Some fans were even hoping for a release date.

With Microsoft adding a ton of new content this year, and Sony rumored to be focusing on fewer and fewer games, the Square Enix conference seemed like the perfect place for it.

However, the half-hour stream didn't even touch on either of the big buzz-worthy properties the studio has in the works.

That doesn't bode too well for either of them.

There is some hope that Final Fantasy VII will make it into the Sony press conference later this evening, as the game was first released on the original PlayStation. But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
