The First Trailer for Steven Knight's Serenity Looks Awesome

This is a movie that seemed to come out of nowhere. The first trailer for Serenity, directed and written by Steven Knight, dropped today and it looks pretty fantastic. It seems on par for Knight to write and direct a movie that seems to come out of no where because he did it back in 2013 with the fantastic Locke starring Tom Hardy. He won't again got some A-list talent including Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Djimon Hounsou, Jason Clarke, and Diane Lane. Deadline has provided a neat little summary of what we can expect from this one.

Serenity stars McConaughey as Baker Dill, a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered when his ex-wife Karen (Hathaway) tracks him down and begs him to save her and their young son from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea and leaving him for the sharks. The ask thrusts Dill back into a life he'd tried to forget and his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems.

Serenity has a prime release date October 19th even if the schedule at that time is packed with big names like Halloween and Mowgli. It has the cast of a picture looking to score some award clout which means the box office doesn't really matter. If it gets an awards push it'll make up for any lost box revenue by people wanting to see the movie for award season.
