The Shazam! Costume Went Through Numerous Changes Before and During Production

Fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for an official costume reveal for Shazam! We've seen some leaked on set images that didn't look that great but when it comes to adapting iconic costumes it's not an easy process. According to director David F. Sandberg on the Film Riot Podcast (via Heroic Hollywood) the costume for star Zachary Levi was constantly getting tweaked both before and during production.

"Yeah, there were a few iterations. And you sort of have to keep changing stuff even after we started shooting because you realize things… You shoot the first scene and Zach [Levi] is like, 'You know, I can't move my hands properly with these gauntlets.' So we had to redesign that, or like the boots kept falling apart so it's like, 'Oh well, I guess we have to do something different there.' It was sort of a constant process of updating and making it work better."

If the smallest detail is off it can throw off the entire costume such as lightiing and what kind of fabric you use according to Sandberg.

"You shoot the fabric [with] different lights. Before you even have a costume, you test fabric samples with different patterns on them and all that. His lightning bolt lights up, so there was a lot of tests to get that right."

Shazam! is one of the more low DC Extended Universe movies that's in development. He's been around a long time but he's not as well known to the general public. So perhaps waiting for a Hall H reveal at Comic-Con International will be the place to drum up some hype for this one. No one does hype like the Saturday Hall H crowd.

Summary: A boy is given the ability to become an adult superhero in times of need with a single magic word.

Shazam!, directed by David F. Sandberg, stars Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Asher Angel, and will be written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. It will be released on April 5th, 2019.
